Stage Management Basic Info
Radios –
Each theater has one radio assigned to it to use for communication with front of house. The radio is located in each booth near the lighting console. See radio details page for more information on FOH and backstage radios.
Front of House Communication –
Your house manager will likely touch base with you via radio before a show to discuss plans for opening house, intermissions, late seating etc.
When communicating on the radio, the House Manager will say “front of house to box X”. When you reply, you should identify yourself by box number by saying “go ahead for box X”…or something along those lines. When you want to initiate contact with front of house, you should say “box X to front of house”. This helps when we have multiple theaters in operation with multiple house managers.
When using the radio, press the talk button and then wait a second before you talk, otherwise, the beginning of what you say will be cut off.
Tape -
MATCH does not provide “consumables” like spike tape, gaff tape, glow tape.
Please do not use clear packing tape or duct tape on any of the walls or floors of the building.
DO NOT put tape of any kind on any of the black vinyl curtains. We do provide white ribbon and black safety pins in the desk that’s in the lighting/sound closet so that you can mark the backs of the curtains.
Please do not put glow tape directly on any of the floors because the adhesive can come off the tape and stick to the floor. If you need to use glow tape, put a regular spike down first and then put the glow tape on to that. Or, use clear vinyl tape to put over the spike tape without removing the backing of the glow tape.
Please do not tape signs to the walls or doors backstage or in the theater. There are clear plastic sign holders on all theater doors for signage. The doors are also metal and signs can be put up using magnets.
Backstage Paging –
Each theater is equipped with a backstage paging system that will page to the dressing rooms, restrooms and green room.
In Matchbox 1, 2 and 3 there is a single microphone with a push to talk switch that will page backstage. In Matchbox 4 there is a full paging and god mic rack.
Please identify which theater your paging when making calls backstage because the paging system goes to all of the common backtage areas including the restrooms and break room.
Break Room (Green Room)-
The break room located behind Matchbox 2 is a shared space available to all theaters. Because it is a shared space and in the backstage hallway of Matchbox 2, we do ask that all users are respectful and quiet during performances.
There is a coffee machine, microwave and refrigerator available.
We do not provide coffee supplies other than coffee filters.
If you notice the coffee pot is near empty and the burner is still on, please turn it off so that it doesn’t burn the coffee to the bottom of the pot.
If you, or your performers make a mess, please clean it up.
Please clean out anything that you put in the refrigerator at the end of your rental period.
If the ice machine or water filter stop working, please notify the MATCH Production Manager, or the on duty MATCH staff person.
Stage Floors-
It is your responsibility to maintain the “stage” areas in all theaters. The cleaning crew will clean seating risers, entry ways and theater lobbies, but the stage proper is the responsibility of the renter.
Brooms, dust mops, dust pans and towels are all available in the loading dock area.
The standard MATCH practice for mopping the floors in the theater is to use a push broom with a wet towel wrapped around the head.
Once the towel is appropriately wrapped, you simply push the broom along the floor. The towel will likely need to be changed several time during this process. There should be ample towels in the dock.
Do not use any of the custodial mops on the dance floor in Matchbox 2 because they may contain residual cleaning solution.
Please be sure to remove any spike marks that you put down on the floor during your load out.
Report any damage to the floors immediately to the MATCH Production Manager, or on duty MATCH staff person.
Music stands -
Each control booth has a dedicated music stand to be used either in the booth or backstage. Matchbox 1 and 3 each have one stand, Matchbox 2 has 2 stands, and Matchbox 4 has 3 stands.
Please return booth music stands to the control booth if used in the theater during load out.
Please do not take music stands from other theaters, and do not use music stands that are reserved for musician use.
Smoking / Stage Door -
The stage door is locked at all times and at no time should it be propped open.
You may checked out a "smokers card" be the MATCH Production Manager to hand to your performers/ technicians/ musicians so that they can go to the loading dock to smoke.
Please do not use this card as another access card, it is only intended to allow easy access to people who are already inside the building and need to come and go throughout an event. This card will only work on the stage door.
